This design began as my own quiet way of reconnecting with roots I had almost let slip from memory.
The mask that anchors this African-inspired pullover came to me in a dream not long after I visited my grandmother. She had laid out photographs of traditional ceremonies, faces painted, drums sounding in still images, and something in me knew I had to translate that power into something a person could actually wear. I gave this piece six full months before I was willing to call it finished.
I studied hundreds of traditional masks, sitting with their symbolic meanings and the logic behind their geometric patterns. The way I draw African mask art leans on scarification patterns, reimagined through my own contemporary lens. The face on this garment is not copied from any single object. Instead it is a synthesis of several African design traditions, layered together until it became something that felt both honest and entirely my own.

The Symbolism in Every Line

Why I Create Cultural Fashion
