What I Put Into Artwork for Mom

I work in black and white by deliberate choice. The absence of color creates a kind of clarity that I find essential when drawing a subject as emotionally layered as a mother. Without color to guide the viewer’s feeling, the form itself becomes the emotion. The line becomes the language.
And when the subject is a woman who has been carrying her family her entire life, that language needs to be precise.
